Laboratory Workforce is vital in the healthcare system. It is important both to understand the factors contributing to the challenges that affect the supply and demand, as well pathways into the clinical laboratory professions.

Purpose

To inspire an alliance and community of practice to accelerate and replicate existing initiatives and to explore new initiatives to address the laboratory workforce shortage.

Initiatives:

1. Strengthening the data to better understand the laboratory workforce.

2. Communicating career pathways for new and transitioning students and 

3. Standardizing professional titles.

COLA Workforce Action Alliance

WAA Summit
(May 2024, Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida)

COLA Workforce Action Alliance (WAA) is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing workforce challenges and promoting sustainable solutions in Medical Laboratory Science Profession. Comprised of stakeholders from government, healthcare institutions, educational institutions, and laboratory community organizations, the WAA seeks to foster dialogue, share best practices, and implement strategies to enhance workforce development and support economic growth. PAMET- USA is a proud member of this alliance.

On May 3, 2024, the 2nd WAA Summit was held in Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida and we were there to collaborate in finding solutions to address the laboratory workforce shortage. Attended by Elma Kamari Bidkorpeh and Dollie Marie Besquillo Jacosalem, our Legislative Committee Co-Chairs and our National President, Rowena Boots Pablico.
